About The Primitive Needle

The Primitive Needle was originally created by my mama, Lisa Roswell. I'm her daughter, Mariah. Mom had a passion for counted cross stitch and also happened to be quite creative. She loved all things Halloween. She decided to try her hand at designing counted cross stitch patterns and her patterns became well-known throughout the cross stitch community. I was a teenager when she started this and I remember spending hours helping her to print and organize the materials for her patterns and prepare them for distribution. I also accompanied her to a couple of markets for cross stitching. My mom tragically passed away in 2011. The Primitive Needle patterns became quite hard to find and my family and I have had numerous requests to buy the rights to the patterns or buy any spare charts we had. We only have so many spare patterns and of course would like to keep originals for ourselves. Additionally, it never felt right to sell the rights to her patterns. I always toyed with the idea of resuming sales of her patterns but it felt too overwhelming for a long time. I have young children and never felt I had the time to dedicate to printing and shipping her patterns and I couldn't get her computer to work that stored all the digital versions of her patterns on her cross stitch design software. However, I kept getting this nagging feeling that mom would want her patterns to be available and would want me to continue to be part of the business. My mom was a strong believer in intuition and always encouraged me to listen to my intuition. So I started to do some research and discovered cross stitch patterns can be digitized and sold online. This started my journey of digitizing The Primitive Needle designs and creating a website for The Primitive Needle where I could make the designs available for download upon purchase. This is a labor of love for me. I have not yet completed all of her designs but am working to make them available on the website as I complete each one.
